Our Story
Our Mission:
MRN establishes relationships and builds bridges around Minneapolis, Minnesota, (with a focus on North & South Minneapolis Green Zones) in order to preserve the planet for future generations.
Our goal is for the world to become 100% renewable without having to depend on fossil fuels or any other dangerous forms of energy production where drilling or mining is the continuous source of energy dependency.
Our History:
Founded in 2019 by Kristel Porter, MN Renewable Now is a relatively new organization that has made great strides in a short time. Engaging thousands of North Minneapolis residents about renewable energy, we have been able to convert the electricity consumption of over 100 households to renewable energy since October 2019.
Through our partnership with the Center For Energy & Environment, we were able to complete over 50 energy efficiency audits and installations in households located in North Minneapolis. This lowered their Heating & Cooling bills by 10-30%, water bills by 30%, and saved them over $500 on their electric bills annually.
We Continue Our Impact Through Our Programs:
SolStar
MN Renewable Now is working with several partners to unveil the Solstar Rooftop Solar Project in North Minneapolis. The work is set to begin in early 2021. We will be taking pre-qualifying applications this fall so please stay tuned and follow our Facebook page. This project is for North Minneapolis property owners to receive solar panels for their property for as little as $2000 or less.
Cycle Sisters
Cycle Sisters (CS) spends time familiarizing and educating all people who identify as women (with a focus on BIPOC residents) on bicycle culture. CS covers; how to ride, where to ride, and what tools are needed to become a safe, avid rider. Cycle Sisters provides group rides with local business destinations to promote mental and physical health and economically strong communities.
Power North
Power North combines strong community relationships with clean energy expertise to switch Northsiders to clean energy. The project aims to direct two campaigns that empower Northern Green Zone residents and businesses to choose clean electricity. September 2019’s campaign focused on spurring businesses and residents to take advantage of solar and wind opportunities.
